Guide to Washing Pole Installation: Dealing with Different Ground Types and Alternative Mounting Solutions

Installing a washing line pole may seem like a straightforward task, but the type of ground you're dealing with can greatly influence the installation process. Moreover, if you're facing space constraints or don't have a suitable ground spot, our side mounting brackets and base plate solutions can come to your rescue. Let's delve deeper into these aspects.

Soil: The most common ground type, soil installation requires digging a hole of sufficient depth (usually around 500mm), placing the pole, and then backfilling with poured concrete and some excess excavated soil.

Clay: Clay soil is often more challenging because it can be very hard and dense when dry, making it difficult to dig, and quite sticky and unmanageable when wet. We recommend soaking the ground with water a few hours before digging, to make it easier. Like with loose soil, using concrete is recommended.

Rocky Soil: If your ground is rocky, you may require a jackhammer or a post hole digger to create the hole. The rock fragments can be used along with concrete to secure the pole.

Sand: Sandy soils lack stability, so it's essential to use concrete when installing the pole. Also, due to its loose nature, a deeper hole might be required to provide a firm base for the pole.

Now, what if you don't want to dig or can't dig a hole in your garden? Or if you have a concrete surface? We've got solutions for these scenarios too!

Side Mounting Brackets: These brackets offer a great alternative if you wish to attach your washing line pole to an existing low-level wall or fence post. Made from durable steel, they provide a sturdy support for the pole, making sure your washing line stays stable.

Base Plate: If you have a hard, flat surface like a concrete slab, and core-drilling a hole into it isn't an option, we can customise your pole with a base plate at the bottom. This can be bolted to the concrete, offering a solid and reliable setup for your washing line pole.

Remember, whatever the situation or ground type, it's always crucial to ensure the pole is installed securely. This not only guarantees the functionality of your washing line but also maintains the safety of your outdoor space. If in doubt, don't hesitate to get in touch with us for advice!
