Washing line poles - frequently asked questions

We have a range of different heavy duty washing line poles available and which one you choose is ultimately down to personal preference; whether it be a modern, traditional or stainless steel design to best suit your taste or garden style. We do have available multi-line clothes poles which are best suited to families with lots of washing to do, and adjustable poles for those who may want to raise/lower the line for access. 

A clothes line prop is usually recommended for fixed poles and longer lines- a line prop will not only make accessing your washing easier, but also reduce the strain placed on your washing line and the pole itself. 

Absolutely! All our washing line poles are a heavy duty steel construction and always over 40mm wide and between 2-4mm thick depending on the style chosen. Our posts are heavy, strong and made to last.

These washing line poles are both long and heavy items and out of the remit of most standard package couriers- we do however have specialist couriers that are able to deliver throughout Mainland UK any washing line pole upto 3.5metres long. 

As a general rule of thumb the washing line poles should be installed circa 500mm into the ground. 500mm is also the length of our standard ground sockets.

Our washing line poles are high quality items and built to last the test of time. All our black poles are first galvanized to protect against rust and then powdercoated on top with a typical life-span well over 10 years. Our stainless steel washing line pole is supplied in 316G marine grade material and should last almost indefinitely - This pole will however require frequent cleaning to maintain the finish and avoid tarnishing. 

Installing a washing line pole should be a simple DIY task for most competent persons. Installation should be as simple as digging a hole, getting your post level and concreting into place. We would typically recommend a temporary timber prop and rubber clamp to help hold the post level and Postcrete for a fast-setting solution. 

This will depend on your individual circumstances. Two or more washing line poles might be used in a longer garden or one pole in conjunction with a wall bracket- such a bracket could be affixed to a house wall, garden shed, fence post or otherwise. 

There are very few couriers able to handle such large heavy goods and unfortunately this comes at a significant cost to ourselves. We know it may sound expensive but delivery prices are dependant on quantity and weight of goods being ordered but always kept at cost prices or below. 

Whilst we offer a range of washing line related accessories, what you need will ultimately depend on your circumstances- Pulleys are generally used with our Adjustable and Multi-Line poles, line props used for most applications and pegs used if you don't have any decent pegs already! 

We are proud to supply UK manufactured goods, all made in the Steel City of Sheffield. Nothing is imported and all raw materials are sourced locally in the Yorkshire region. 

Our ground sockets are a galvanzied steel box section that are designed to be cast into the ground thus making your washing line post removeable for example in the winter months when not in use, or when the kids want to play 5-a-side football. Otherwise, your washing pole could simply to concreted straight into the ground if you don't ever wish to remove it.

We are proud that our products are made in Sheffield using locally-sourced raw materials. Plus, steel is recyclable, so even at the end of its long life, our pole won't end up in a landfill. 

 We understand that sometimes products might not fit your needs. Poles can be returned within 14 days if you change your mind. Please note original postage cost would not be refunded and you would need to cover the cost of the return.

Our washing line poles are designed for minimal maintenance. However, a simple wipe down with a damp cloth can remove any dirt or bird droppings. For our stainless steel models, especially in coastal areas, we recommend frequent cleaning to maintain its shine and prevent tarnishing. 

Our line posts are listed online as stock or made-to-order. Stock item orders are collected by our dedicated courier twice per week, and for delivery within 2-3 working days- delivery of your washing line pole order should therefore be <1 week usually. 

Our washing poles are powdercoated in black as standard but also offered in anthracite grey and dark green, as these are most popular. You can also request other specific RAL colours, but please get in touch to discuss first. 

The configuration of poles and spacing can vary from garden to garden but as a general rule our recommendation is a maximum span of 6metres and a further pole used on longer lengths, or advise longer lines be supported with line prop(s).

Of course! You are more than welcome to collect, and help you load the goods into your vehicle. All collections are by prior arrangement only, please do not attend without booking.
