A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Remove a Washing Line Pole
At times, you might find the need to remove a washing line pole, whether it's because you're moving, redesigning your garden, or simply replacing an old one. In this blog post, we'll provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to safely and efficiently remove a washing line pole from your property.
-
Gather the necessary tools and equipment: Before you begin, make sure you have the following tools and equipment on hand: a shovel or spade, a pair of sturdy gloves, a bucket or wheelbarrow, and optionally, a pry bar or similar leverage tool.
-
Clear the area around the pole: Remove any debris, plants, or obstacles surrounding the washing line pole to ensure you have ample space to work safely.
-
Dig around the base of the pole: Put on your gloves and use the shovel or spade to dig a hole around the base of the washing line pole, exposing the concrete footing that secures the pole in the ground. Be sure to dig deep enough to reveal the entire concrete block.
-
Loosen the concrete footing: Once the concrete footing is exposed, use the shovel or pry bar to loosen it from the surrounding soil. You may need to dig a little deeper or wiggle the pole back and forth to help break up the dirt and make the footing easier to remove. For extremely well set concrete, a jack-hammer tool might be required to break the concrete.
-
Lift the concrete footing out of the ground: Once the footing is sufficiently loosened, use your gloves and leverage tools to carefully lift the concrete block out of the ground. If the block is particularly heavy, you may need assistance from a friend or family member or break it into smaller sections where possible.
-
Remove the pole from the concrete footing: With the concrete footing removed, you can now separate the washing line pole from the concrete. Depending on the type of installation, this may involve unscrewing bolts or using a pry bar to loosen the pole from the concrete.
-
Fill the hole and restore the area: Finally, fill the hole with soil and restore the area around the pole to its original state. This may include reseeding grass or replanting flowers to help your garden look as good as new.
-
Alternative solution where the pole is being disposed of may be to cut the post off at ground level and leave the concrete base in the soil- ensure any new pole however is located elsewhere in the garden to avoid difficulties.
Point to Note : Using a ground socket can make a post removeable with ease- we strongly advise the use of a ground socket for this reason when buying a new pole!
Removing a washing line pole may seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and a bit of patience, you can successfully complete the job. By following this step-by-step guide, you'll be able to safely and efficiently remove your washing line pole and restore your garden to its original state.
